COLLEGE TASTER SESSIONS Back to Top
Stourbridge College have again organised 2 days of taster sessions to give year 9 & 10 students a brief insight into college life. The sessions were from almost every course that the college offers and were as diverse as Sport, Travel & Tourism, Law, History, Sociology and many more, in fact 35 different subjects could be tried on all 3 of their sites. On Monday 30th June, fifty two of our year 10 students went there and on Tuesday 1st July one hundred & forty one of our year 9 students went.
Staff from P.T.C. who supported them by going along were Mrs. McHenry, Mrs. Wainwright, Mr. Maflehi, Miss Constable, Mrs. Harding and Mr. Payne who organised the 2 days.
During the 2 days our students behaved themselves perfectly and with one particular group of year 9 the Psychology & Sociology lecturer described them as some of the most intelligent and perceptive students that he had ever met at that age.
Clearly we hope that students will have got an idea of courses that may be of interest to them at 16 years of age and these 2 days have just further increased the good working relationship between ourselves and Stourbridge College.

TASTER SESSIONS AT KING EDWARD COLLEGE Back to Top
On Wednesday 2nd July 2 taster sessions were organised for our students at King Edward VI College, the premier college in this area for post 16 education. The first session was for fifteen specially selected year 10 students in science. They were given a good idea of what science is like to study at AS/A2 level and the demands put upon them in this particular subject. The second session was for nine of our year 9 students who have selected Critical Thinking as part of their key stage 4 options where they will be doing an AS level a year early. Both sessions were received very enthusiastically by our students who couldn't stop talking about their day on the return journey.
We are very grateful to both colleges for their support with these days.

Trust Youth Project July 08 Back to Top
This term, twelve year 10 girls have been involved in a project set up by national charity called Trust Youth.
The aim of the project was for the girls to set up and run their own fundraising mini-charity. The charity that was chosen was The British Red Cross and the girls attended a training day with the British Red Cross at The Village hotel in Dudley. On that day they learnt about the work of the charity and considered different fundraising activities.
Back at school they met on a weekly basis and planned how to raise awareness of the charity in the school and what activities they could do. It was decided to make posters which were put up around the school and then they decided to sell frozen jubblies and tiptops at lunchtime.
This was a great idea and on each of the three days that they were on sale, they were all sold out within 13 minutes!!
So far they have managed to raise £57 for the charity with some more fundraising activities planned for the future.

Year 7 mini tennis Back to Top
Eight year 7 girls were selected to play in a mini tennis tournament at Windsor High School on Wednesday 24 th June 2008.
Players were seeded one to eight and played seven matches against there equivalent seed. Pupils umpired their own games, playing the first to 11 points. Well done to Millie (1) who won 3 out of 7 games, Kelly (2) 5 out of 7, Sophie (3) 4 out of 7, Karina (4) 4 out of 7, Lauren (5) 4 out of 7, Pagan (6) 3 out of 7, Asha (7) 4 out of 6, Teri (8) 2 out of 7.
These scores meant we finished sixth out of the eight schools that entered the overall team event. (Just three points of fourth place.) The Holy Trinity School won the team event for the second year running. Our girls played exceptionally well in their first tennis competition and were a credit to the school.
Well done.
